The first UK carrier to operate Boeing 777-300ER is British Airways. UK’s national airline just has taken delivery of first of the six planes on order.

The newly registered G-STBA will have a four class interior, 297 seats and it is the first aircraft delivered to BA this year. By the end of the year, two more planes should be scheduled for flights under the British Airways livery.

BA is taking three more Boeings 777 by early 2012, and the executives of the company are already proud to announce that the interior of the aircraft’s cabin has been completely modernised. The new in-flight entertainment system will also assure the customer satisfaction by providing 50% more choices on movies, television and music products, the representatives of BA say.

“It is the aircraft first to be fitted-out with our new ‘World Traveller’ and ‘World Traveller Plus’ cabins”, Willie Walsh, CEO of British Airways, says.

The 777 delivered to the UK carrier will also feature BA’s ‘First’ and ‘Club World’ interiors.

British Airways therefore becomes the third European carrier to operate 700-300ER, after Turkish Airlines and Air France-KLM. The twin-engine jet airliner is powered by a couple of General Electric 90-115B turbofans, currently the most powerful used engines in use. The range of this lovely aircraft is 7,930 nautical miles (14,690 km).

And here’s a “making of” video of the G-STBA:

Boeing ran the test flight for its largest new plane 747-8 on the last Monday. Due to some unfavorable weather condition the flight was delayed a little bit and but everything went well as reported.

Boeing’s 747-8 is both a passenger and freighter plane. It was supposed to be in the market last year itself, but the prevailing worst postwar conditions forced the delay. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) the passenger demand fell to 3.5% last year. Moreover freight demand fell down by 10 percent with a load factor of below 50 percent. As reported by the IATA, because of excessive aircraft delivery in the market profit will continue rising.

Airbus 380 is giving a tough competition to all the existing airplane manufacturers in the market. As reported by Boeing, it has succeeded in selling only 108 aircrafts.

There is a hope for jumbo jet technology in the near future when the economy stabilizes. According to Boeing, 747-8 is around 10 % less costly than the exisiting 747-400 and the company has all intentions to replace it with the newer one. 747-8 engines manufactured by General Electric also produce fewer emissions as compared to the previous one.

The first official test flight of Boeing’s new 787 took place Tuesday at Paine Field in Everett, Washington. The “Dreamliner” should be more energy-efficient, more silent and it should pollute less than the previous models.

The yesterday flight was almost two years late, but the aircraft successfully took to the skies on Tuesday, after several operational maneuvers performed Saturday. This is the world’s second-largest liner made of special composite materials, in order to make it lighter. The 787 will use 20% less fuel than other large planes and it will produce fewer emissions.

The huge white and blue painted aircraft took off as seen by 25,000 people – Boeing employees, customers and airline executives. The four-hour flight over the Washington state was the first on a program needed for obtaining the certification of Federal Aviation Administration. The program is expected to last about nine months.

There are already 840 orders and the first company to get a Dreamliner will be Japans’s All Nipon Airways (ANA), sometime next year. The delay of yesterday’s historical moment and for delivering the first plane was caused by some ill-fitting parts and other problems. The parts of the plane are produced all over the globe and then transported to Everett for assembling by Boeing.

The current version of 787 will be able to fly 250 passenger about 9,000 miles, in better conditions than before: more comfortable seats, better air quality and larger windows. Depending on the configuration, the 787 could hold up to 330 passengers.

In order to further establish itself as the number one aircraft manufacturer and boost its revenue, Boeing announced Monday, November 16, that it will start to produce more jets in the Middle East for the next 20 years.

The task is to build more than 1,710 new planes in value of $300 billion, since during this period the passenger traffic is also expected to increase with 4.9 % each year. This growth is due to several statistics showing that markets and people’s incomes will rise in the Middle East over the next years, as well as in India and China.

We see tremendous growth for the Middle East region, and Middle East carriers are well-positioned to meet those growth requirements with the fleet capacity they have in the form of unfilled orders, or backlog, said Randy Tinseth, vice president of Marketing, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, during the Dubai Air Show.

Other top plane makers like Airbus said that the airline industry will probably revive by the next year. This way there are high hopes that airline companies will start making new big money from the beginning of 2011 after serious efforts will be done to straighten up the global economy. Airbus is back on track, managing to sign a deal with Yemenia Airways for 10 A320 aircraft valued for $700 million at list prices, while other jets are still pending.

The Middle East carriers, that would benefit from this investment, will surely include the UAE’s Emirates, the Arab world’s biggest airline. Also further figures show that the Middle East and Asia Pacific air travel market will speed up with 6.3 percent from 2008 to 2028. The passenger and his/her choosing will determine the success of airlines in the area, but companies must meet people’s requirements. Thus, by promoting more flight choices, lower fares and direct access to a wider range of destinations, companies might get the benefit. This way, it’s not the size of the plane that matters, but the number of flights in the area with more efficient airplanes.

Michael O’Leary, Ryanair CEO, decided to deliver an ultimatum to Boeing by showing his readiness to finish its long term partnership and initiate talks with Airbus which is considered to be the European rival. Such management negatively influenced on executives.

According to the Journal, Ryanair was one of the biggest airlines that accomplished a possible order for 200 of its 737 model for more than a year. In case the order did not continue to be successful then the carrier would lower its evaluation.

“The difficulty has just been in getting someone in Boeing to make a decision. Boeing seem to have a degree of internal turmoil,” said O’Leary

O’Leary also added that if Ryanair did not conclude an agreement with Boeing until the end of the year, the company would have to reduce growth ratio up till 2012, by means of cancellations and some deferral charges. It meant that from 2012 the business would begin to run from maximized revenue.

But according to The Irish Times, O’Leary wanted to clinch a bargain with Boeing in order to defect to European rival Airbus in the past. But it did not work as the route was closed off by Airbus. It happened so because Airbus did not agree to sell aircraft to Ryanair at the knock-down prices offered by O’Leary.

The Source blog considered that the situation could be different at that moment. And the possibility of ending the partnership between Boeing and Ryanair occurred. It would be inability to think things out to interpret O’Leary’s threats to Boeing as empty ones. Without any doubt Ryanair was able to leave behind Boeing as Ryanair has more than EUR2.5 billion in cash on reserve that was considered to be a peculiar position of strength for any major airline.

At the beginning of this month Ryanair announced that by the end of the year it could submit the order for 200 aircrafts to Boeing or Airbus with the delivery date after 2012. According to Michael O’Leary, Ryanair CEO, the bargain will be closed before the end of the year or if not, then never.

A new state owned Russian airline Rosavia informed recently that Airbus and Boeing had proposed their bids for the Russia’s tender for 50 firm narrow body orders. The decision on the order will be taken on December 20, 2009.

But at the same time Turkish Airlines had also negotiations with Airbus and Boeing at which an order for 70 aircraft was discussed. The price of the order is USD5 billion. But it is still uncertain whether the deal will be divided among them or a single manufacturer will get it. A timeframe for the order is still unknown.

It is expected that Qatar Airways will soon announce about new aircraft deals at the Air Show that will take place in Dubai on November 15, 2009.

In case Airbus or Boeing got big shares from these orders, it would result in a satisfactory close of, generally, not a very successful year and a preferential position in the battle for orders. If orders are placed, that would also serve as a positive sign for the next year for the manufacturer and aerospace sector.

Because of a number of cancellations, Boeing fell behind Airbus this year. One can say that the European manufacturer is considered to be behind it US competitor concerning new orders but it has the less number of cancellations.

Income Report Made by Safran

Safran, a French aerospace company, reported about its income results for the nine months to 30-Sep-2009. According to the report its income went up by 1.7% and the total income went down by 3.5% on an organic basis.

According to Jean-Paul Herteman, group CEO, the global financial downturn affected two major operating units of the company – Aerospace Propulsion and Aircraft Equipment with actually no organic growth. Safran decided not to give a detaoled outlook for 2010 but mentioned the year is going to be challenging.
