Ryanair Sets Forth Conditions to Shannon and Bratislava Airports

Ryanair is looking for an approximately free deal with Shannon Airport, similar to the one it has with in the Canary Islands. If Ryanair goes ahead and reduces the number of flights going in and out of Shannon, passenger numbers could be reduced from 2.7 million this year to 2 million in 2010.
It was estimated by Ryanair that 60% of Shannon’s passengers were carried by the company. Moreover it presses down on Shannon in order to get a new cheaper deal on airport charges and at the same time wants to cancel the €10 Government passenger tax.
In case of inability to cut a new deal the airline will curtail the number of aircraft at Shannon from four to one. According to the Shannon Airport Authority, the airport was not going to sign a new five-year contract with Ryanair.
Marin Moroney said that Shannon would have 2.7 million passengers and the number of passenger was dropped by 8% this year. He added that it would be a stroke in case Ryanair would make its reduction as it could lead to the loss of approximately 1.2 million.
In case Ryanair could surrender original agreement of two million passengers per year it would satisfy the airport and would give a possibility for the airline company to have five aircraft based at Shannon.
It was also added that the airport should work commercially, i.e. airlines had to make payments in order to land and use facilities.
It was also announced that Ryanair was going to build a base in Bratislava with three aircrafts and 20 new routes. But such plan would be fulfilled in case the Bratislava Airport would diminish the airport fees by 70 percent.
The conditions of the airline company will be considered carefully as they can influence negatively on the airport’s revenue. The Slovak Ministry of Transport that has a 48-percent stake of the airport is unsatisfied with such conditionals and, moreover, considers them unfair.
