Are you ignoring your environmental impact?

A new research released on the day of the Copenhagen Summit on climate change shows that British travellers are reluctant to give up on some of their travelling in order to help the environment. Travellers are expecting the travel industry to implement changes instead of them having a direct impact.

According to the study, 13% of people are aware of the environmental impact when flying and cut the number of flights they take, while 15% admit they will fly more next year than in the previous year.aircraft-pollution

The research made by tbe company TNS-RI Travel and Tourism clearly shows that 90% of people questioned are highly unlikely to change their travelling habbits in order to reduce the environmental impact of their trip; apparently, this decision is mainly influenced by price and convenience.

Also, around two thirds frequently discuss environmental issues, while 73% are “very” or “fairly” concerned by the development of this trend. Out of the 2,090 travellers questioned, only 5% made a payment to help promote environmental actions.

“Even though we claim to be concerned about climate change, we prefer to consider our travel plans in isolation and avoid letting green concerns affect our flying. There seems to be a feeling that going on holiday is an escape from reality and everything that comes with it – including considering our role in the long-term health of our planet,” said Tom Costley, the company’s director.
