Finnair, the national airline of Finland, has provided a new marketing strategy according to which flying to Asia via Helsinki is quicker an even eco-smart. It will give a possibility for Finnar to increase the number of passengers to Asia as the number of passengers from Finland is not so big.
It was discussed that most direct routes to China, India and south-east Asia fly over Finland and that is why there is no use to make flights via Finnair.
Kati Ihamäk, vice president for sustainable development, believes that a new marketing strategy will help to carry less fuel. As most long-haul flights require a big amount of fuel, then smaller hops will cut the fuel load. Despite the fact the process of taking off require as much fuel as cruising for 700-800 kilometers, Kati is convinced that twice taking off in London and Helsinki will burn more fuel than taking off once.
A stop-off in Helsinki is also a good chance to cut emissions when flying from New York to New Delhi by 28% and one can divide long-haul flights into smaller. But according to Finnair’s scientists there is no deference between a flight from London to Beijing and Delhi or Mumbai as direct flights emit fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
Many suppose that flights via Helsinki will not be in a demand, as it is considered to be a very long journey for passengers. But still Finnair is crazy about its new marketing strategy and is desperate to sell tickets.
Finnair debated on the issue that soon there will be imposed limits on emissions and for that reason many airline companies will have to deicide on direct routes, fuel burning and cutting out long-haul flights.
Also Finnair announced that they made a marketing trick according to which such eco-smart flights will not hold water as it was decided to use cherry-picking data.
