Bmibaby’s restructuring program

Bmibaby announced about its decision to make restructuring program, i.e. it is planning to curtail its fleet by approximately 30 per cent from 17 to 12 aircraft next year. It means that it will be necessary to refocus on flights that usually have base at East Midlands airport.

The information concerning what routes can be cut is still not known, but according to the carrier 54 pilot and 82 cabin crew that work at Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff airports together with 22 management and support positions at Bmibaby’s head office facility may be laid off.bmibaby

The airline company believes that due to such program it will be possible to add the number of directions from East Midlands airport to such countries as Barcelona, Malta, Venice and Cork next year. Bmibaby’s headquarters are situated in Castle Donnington close to East Midlands airport which is considered to be the first starting point for the company’s operation in 2002.

It will be a good option for the company to get a large base at East Midlands airport. But because of growth routes the company will come across rivals such as Ryanair that have already given a good account of itself at Castle Donnington. And still there are doubts that Bmibaby will be able to show good results concerning cut-throat service.

Easyjet, for instance, considered digressing from the way at East Midlands, one should say that it was a commercial decision. As Baby leaves the presence of Ryanair and Flybe at Manchester, it gives an opportunity for Jet 2 or Easyjet to add more services. Moreover it is considered that Ryanair and Flybe will become weak at Birmingham and they will be unable to come back when the economy starts improving. Also there is a possibility that baby can reduce the presence of Ryanair at Cardiff airport that a few years ago had good deals with Ryanair.
