Big Chances for Frontier Airlines
Frontier Airlines, a Denver carrier, has reached a new era on Tuesday. It stopped its existence as an independent airline after it had filed for bankruptcy protection 18 months ago. Soon Frontier Airlines will become a division of Republic Airways Holdings Incorporation.
It is planned to make Frontier as a stand-alone airline, moreover it will be working under its name.
Not so long ago Republic acquired Milwaukee – based Midwest Airlines which became a sister of Frontier. Frontier and Midwest have already discussed some aspects concerning their partnership. A month ago it was announced a mutual code sharing agreement according to which it is possible to book each others’ flights. It is also planned to exchange several jets and flying route with Frontier.
Sean Menke, frontier’s CEO, is going to keep watching over the operation of both airlines: Frontier and Midwest.
Because of the changes, Republic was the only operator of regional flights and now it is the company with major hubs in Denver and Milwaukee.
Republic made a decision to move about 400 Frontier jobs and 250 workers who generally work in jet maintenance in Denver. But still it is not known where to move workers that is why the issue will be discussed later this month. Such decision was made because of excessive costs such as: high taxes and airport landing fees.
Last week Menke gave the interview to the Denver Business Journal where he told about various questions that have to be solved in order to support the company. Till now he is staying in Denver to resolve the issues connected with the Frontier jobs.
After filling for Chapter 11 protection in April 2008, Frontier started to work frantically in order to elevate its load factor. It is reported that within 10 months Frontier gained profits. According to the words of executive, Frontier is on the way of a bright future. (via BizJournals)
